World of Warcraft Cataclysm is Ridiculously Popular
- 12/20/2010 12:16:49 AM -
The new edition of World of Warcraft, Cataclysm has been on sale for about half a month. Although figures like 3.3 million sales on the first day alone are frankly impressive enough, seeing the reality of what people are doing with it is even better.
According to the figures, the top 11% of all players generated over 50% of the playtime hours for the game across the Raptr network. Additionally, the top player clocked in 149 hours in one week - that's over six days of straight World of Warcraft action, a feat of frankly superhuman endurance.
Other interesting figures include:
* World of Warcraft playtime has grown 5 times since the summer of 2010 as one time fans flocked back to the game to drive up overall playtime to record highs.
* World of Warcraft time played per day has grown 1.5 times since the summer of 2010.
* World of Warcraft playtime per week has grown to 20 hours – almost double of what it was in the summer of 2010.
* World of Warcraft stole the most playtime hours from StarCraft 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and League of Legends.
Although this data clearly only represents the portion of the population who use the Raptr client and not the broad whole, it's still a hugely interesting thing to see.
